'It got everything right but…' German tennis ace Andrea Petkovic reviews Zendaya’s new tennis movie Challengers
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

American actor and model Zendaya is making waves in the tennis world with her new movie “Challengers”. In recent months, the Euphoria star has been actively promoting the film across the tennis tour. Now that the movie is released, reactions are pouring in.

Even tennis enthusiasts couldn’t resist watching the movie. In recent days, many tennis players have attended screenings. The film revolves around a girl named Tashi (Zendaya), who plays tennis and trains her husband. Some real-life tennis players may have found certain scenes relatable.

Recently, former German tennis player Andrea Petkovic had a few opinions about Luca Guadagnino’s new movie. She had entered the movie expecting it to fail, cause movies usually depict tennis as wrong and laughable.

Challengers got everything right about my sport–apart from the sexiness.--I loved it. I never thought I would write these words, but it’s a very sexy sports movie. Which is interestingly the only thing it gets wrong about tennis. Andrea Petkovic in her review of the movie via The Guardian

Petkovic, initially skeptical about the movie, had a positive review after watching it. Despite noticing some differences in the tennis portrayal, she commended the actors for their efforts in learning the sport for the film.

Andrea Petkovic gives a good rating for the Challengers movie and ranks it as one of the best sports movies

Challengers starring Zendaya had much hype around it, for the movie revolved around tennis. However, there was also some air around it for not portraying tennis the way it is. That was Andrea Petkovic’s scare, who felt the opposite.

The relatability of the tennis surprised her in most parts and the twist in the story. In the end, the German even ranked the movie with the other movies.

It’s not the best movie I have ever seen. But it is the best tennis movie. Maybe even the best sports movie. Sorry, Moneyball. said Andrea Petkovic

Petkovic has shared her thoughts, and it’s likely that other tennis stars will also watch and comment on the movie. While it has received an average rating overall, tennis players seem to be enjoying it more.
