Analyst Reveals How Michael Pratt Fits With Green Bay Packers
Vasha Hunt-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers came away with several impressive rookies in their 2024 draft class including quarterback Michael Pratt. Many people were surprised when he was still available late in the seventh round when Green Bay selected him No. 245 overall.

General manager Brian Gutekunst wants to get back into the habit of selecting at least one quarterback per year in the draft and has now done it two years in a row. In the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, they selected Sean Clifford out of Penn State.

Neither player is a threat for the starting job, which is held by Jordan Love. So, what is the fit of Michael Pratt during his rookie season? ESPN draft analyst Jordan Reid revealed how the Tulane product will be in the mix in 2024.

“It was surprising to see Pratt still on the board heading into the seventh round, and the Packers drafted a Day 3 signal-caller for a second consecutive year (Sean Clifford in 2023). An on-time and in-rhythm passer, Pratt is a clean operator from the pocket. His ability to create plays outside of structure will never be a factor that scares NFL defenses, though, which limits his ceiling,” Reid wrote.

The Green Bay Packers found incredible value with Michael Pratt still on the board. As noted by Reid, he has some limitations to his game, but teams were high on his chances to at least develop into a high-level backup quarterback.

To earn that job in Green Bay, he will need to beat out Clifford. That will be one of the training camp battles people will be keeping a close eye on, as the job for the No. 2 job behind Love looks to be wide open.

The backup quarterback spot could be viewed as a weakness for the Green Bay Packers currently. With some veterans such as Ryan Tannehill and Teddy Bridgewater still available, an addition could be made at some point if Michael Pratt and Clifford don’t perform well in offseason workouts.
