Report: Sacramento Kings Head Coach In Line For A Massive Extension
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The Sacramento Kings have been a resurgence under head coach Mike Brown. A franchise that was once the laughingstock of the league is now among the contenders in the Western Conference. Under Brown’s direction, the team has crafted one of the best offenses in the NBA. Because of the success, Brown is expected to get a massive extension some time soon.

Sacramento Kings Head Coach Mike Brown’s Contract

Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reported that the contracts of Monty Williams and Mike Budenholzer are heavily influencing the number for Mike Brown. The Sacramento Kings will likely have to shell out some big dollar amounts.

“With Brown’s Coach of the Year credentials and the new benchmarks for coaching salaries after Monty Williams landed $70-plus million from Detroit and Budenholzer’s recent $10 million average annual salary, Brown’s talks are expected to center around a similar eight-figure threshold as well”

Winning Coach of the Year and revitalizing a once-dead franchise is pretty good leverage for a payday. Mike Brown also has a long history of being an elite head coach in the league. He took the Cleveland Cavaliers on deep playoff runs with LeBron James. While the Sacramento Kings struggled this year, they have a good outlook for the first time in a long time.

What Are The Offseason Moves For The Kings?

The biggest question this offseason is whether the Sacramento Kings can re-sign sixth-man Malik Monk. Before an injury ended his season prematurely, he was averaging a career-high 15.4 points per game. The combination of his downhill penetration and elite shooting made him a critical piece off the bench. He finished second in the voting for Sixth-Man of the Year behind Minnesota Timberwolves big man Naz Red.

Other than Monk, the Sacramento Kings have their core in place. De’Aaron Fox and Domantis Sabonis are the stars of this team. They have players like Keegan Murray, who are young and up-and-coming stars. While the Western Conference is full of elite teams, the Kings have pieces in place to compete with anyone. The hope is that Mike Brown can do some work in the offseason and get this team back on track for next season.
